Booking a Budget Family Cruise

Cruising is great for families, however only some cruise lines are really "family" cruise lines. Carnival Cruises is the go to cruise line for families looking for a vacation on a budget. Some cruise lines like Carnival offer 'camps' for the kids where there are activities to keep them busy and get them out of your hair for a little while so Mommy and Daddy can have 'adult' time. When choosing your family cruise make sure to look at the layout of the ship and the availability of food, activities, pool time and most importantly the 'kid friendly' nature of the ports of call. Price is a big factor when booking a cruise for a family of 4 or more and many cruise lines offer great discounts if you plan your cruising date several months out.

Carnival Cruise Lines

Norwegian, Royal Caribbean, Disney and Carnival are excellent companies because they let you book a year in advance. If you go through one of their recommended travel agents (just call and ask for one). You can put down a deposit (as low as $250 in some cases) and they will hold your cabins until you make final payment 60-90 days before departure. Booking early is a good idea for families because then you can get the better cabins far away from loud entertainment if you have really young kids; or close to the pool, whatever suits your family needs. This also allows you to pick your dining time to fit your kids eating schedule as booking early gives you the choice of "my time dining' or early dining at 6pm...eating at 8pm is not always the best for kids.

Cruise ships may seem daunting or confining but they have activities and there is always something going on or a port to see. It is an excellent way to introduce your child to new places and new cultures!
